Writing a good bid is key to getting selected for jobs. A successful bid speaks directly to the clients needs and goals and helps to explain why you are the best tutor for them to work with. Therefore, investing time into making sure your bid sounds professional, with good spelling and grammar, is essential.
Please see below for some top tips on how to write a successful bid:
Make sure you are only applying to roles which closely fit with your background and experience and where you can really add the most value to the student.
When writing the bid, please address it to the student. If you're a tutor with The Profs and you want to add something that's only relevant to the CSM, please do this by adding a note at the start of the bid - for example, you want to specify you can only help with one part of the job advertisement.
Please don't mention your hourly rate in the written part of the bid, there is a separate box for you to add this into.
Please let the student know your current availability and anything that may affect the lesson schedule - for example, if you have any holidays coming up or if you can't start lessons right away.
Make sure you proof read your bid to ensure it sounds professional and has accurate spelling and grammar. Your bid will get sent over to the student, so you want it to impress!
Bid Examples:
Example University Level Job Application (Spires and Profs jobs):
Hi [STUDENT NAME],
I would love to support you with this! I think I am well suited as I studied [X TOPIC] during my university degree and also researched it extensively as part of my postgraduate dissertation. I have taught a similar course at my current university and last year helped 2 students with the same module, and they both received over 70% in their final exam.
I have availability on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, alongside any time on Saturdays. Given your availability, I can take sessions on Wednesdays at 6 PM.
Please let me know if you would like a free call to discuss this further!
Example School Level Job Application (Spires and Profs jobs):
Hi [STUDENT NAME],
I would love to support you with this! I have been tutoring [A-LEVEL SUBJECT] for five years and have a wealth of resources and questions to help you fully prepare for your exams. I am very familiar with [EXAM BOARD] and am currently helping four other students with this syllabus. Last year, 80% of the students I supported achieved A or A* grades!
I have availability on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, alongside any time on Saturdays. Given your availability, I can take sessions on Wednesdays at 6 PM. I would suggest initially one hour per week, but I can be flexible to increase this in the lead-up to exams. I am away on holiday this week, so I will be free to start lessons from next week onwards.
Example University Level Job Application (The Profs agency jobs only):
Note to CSM:
I can see this student needs help with two modules - I am happy to help with [SPECIFIC MODULE], but it may be best to find another tutor for [SPECIFIC MODULE] as this is not one of my areas of expertise.
